Stylish Downtown Philadelphia Wedding at Barbuzzo // Cara & Max
January 23, 2019 , Weddings
One of my goals in 2019 is to blog more. It’s embarrassing to think about all the amazing weddings I’ve been lucky enough to shoot, but haven’t blogged yet. For example, Cara and Max! Their stylish downtown Philadelphia wedding last spring was one for the books. It was even featured on one of my favorite wedding blogs, Junebug Weddings!
Cara got ready at her sister’s home in Fishtown, with makeup by Shimmer & Spice and hair from Kelly Hursh of Herringbone Salon. I can safely say I’m obsessed with C’s Rime Arodaky gown, and the Ram Floral bouquet that perfectly complemented the elegant simplicity of it. Max (in a deep blue suit from Bonobos) joined us at the house for some portraits in the backyard with Cara. Let’s not forget Wrigley, their hilarious jumping pup. I shot this wedding solo, so for the first look, Cara waited in the backyard while I led Max (with his hands over his face) over to the exact right spot. My favorite is the photo right before their first look. Both C&M had the excited “is it time yet?” expression on their faces!
After a champagne toast with the family, we drove to some of my favorite side streets in the downtown Midtown Village area for photos. Max and Cara make each other laugh. Like, a LOT. Walking around the neighborhood with them was so much fun! I make some of my favorite portraits when couples are laid back and go-with-the-flow like these two.
At Barbuzzo, they married in front of 50 of their loved ones. They spent the evening enjoying a dinner-party style meal complete with drinks, desserts, and dancing. (Side-note: Barbuzzo is one of my favorite venues – you can see another non-traditional wedding day on the blog here!) From the low-key afternoon leading into the intimate restaurant setting, to the first dance surrounded by their pals, to the hilarious speeches, it was perfection. As Junebug said in their feature, “every detail, from the couple’s classic attire to having no wedding party, made this wedding feel casual while also being exceptionally elegant.”
From the beginning…
