Philadelphia Microwedding at Bartram's Garden & Wm Mulherin's Sons
February 7, 2021 , Weddings

Postponing a wedding is never fun, but one way to make the most out of a bad year (thanks, covid) is by getting married anyway and having the party later. In Kendra & Kyle’s case, their Philadelphia microwedding was the perfect silver lining. If you’re not familiar, a microwedding (or micro wedding, I never know!) is somewhere between an elopement and a classic wedding. It usually has a small guest count but some of the same elements as a bigger wedding, just scaled down. Bonus: you can include your dog!
Last October, Kendra and Kyle got ready for their wedding day in an Airbnb in Fishtown. Our initial plan was to for the couple to see each other somewhere outside in the neighborhood. Then, we’d all hop on the trolley to the ceremony. However, in a very 2020 twist of events, a nearby pizza place had a fire that closed down the street, so I suggested doing a first look indoors instead, and I’m so glad I did! Another great reason to opt for a larger Airbnb where all your people can stay instead of a hotel room – it’s a great backup option for portraits!
We made our way over to Bartram’s Garden in West Philly. While the family helped set up Zoom for the ceremony, we took portraits in the gardens and fields. As the autumn sun was fading, Kyle and Kendra exchanged vows and rings and were pronounced married! Then, they toasted with their Zoom guests (which is such a great way to include the people who couldn’t make it.) Bartram’s Garden is easily one of my favorite Philly wedding venues, and is always such a beautiful and tranquil escape right inside the city limits.
Back in Fishtown, a private suite in Wm. Mulherin’s Sons transformed into an intimate dinner setting for Kendra, Kyle, and their nearest and dearest. The retro, eclectic vibe is so charming, and was a perfect microwedding setup for cocktails, toasts, and a delicious meal. And let’s not forget the impromptu dancing to the vintage record player.
Later this year, the couple plans to have a bigger reception & party with all their favorite people, and I’m so excited to do it all again! Here’s Kendra and Kyle’s Philadelphia microwedding, from the beginning…

Next, it’s back to Fishtown!
