Non-Traditional Wedding at the Powel & Physick House // Julia & Daniel
September 21, 2017 , Weddings
Man, I love a non-traditional wedding. Julia & Daniel tied the knot a few weeks ago and it was the best, most laid back day ever. First, getting ready together at their Queen Village home (with their cat Buster!). I always think it’s so special when couples opt to do their prep together – it makes the whole experience so special and intimate. For their festivities, they selected the best of Philly’s Old City district. The monochromatic Powel House was a beautiful respite from the rain for their self-uniting ceremony with 15 immediate family members. Though they had a close friend act as a guide for the ceremony, they took advantage of Pennsylvania’s pretty awesome Quaker laws and went sans officiant.
For the dinner party reception catered by Di Bruno Brothers, the quirky Physick House was the perfect setting. Although it rained for most of the day, Julia and Daniel didn’t let it ruin their cheer. They had smiles on all day, braved portraits in the rain, and even had an ice cream cart from Little Baby’s surprise their guests with unique flavors like rose pistachio (my personal favorite) and vanilla cardamom. Daniel is a coffee roaster, so his own beans from Other Animal Coffee Roasters were perfect favors for guests.
All day long, all I could think about was how happy I am to document such important days for my couples. Even though this day didn’t look like the “average” wedding day, it was perfectly catered to who Julia and Daniel are as people, and the way they chose to celebrate was the best, because it was so uniquely theirs. So whether you’re planning a big ball room party, an elopement, or a non-traditional wedding somewhere in the middle, as long as it’s true to you, you’ve made the right choice.
Now, from the beginning…
