Kristin & Garritt - an Outdoorsy, DIY Boy Scout Camp Wedding
October 1, 2014 , Weddings
I spent a good portion of this past year looking forward to Kristin & Garritt’s wedding. That may sound silly, but I really did. The more I heard about their wedding in the months and weeks prior, the more excited I got. They got ready in the tiny, sleepy town of Mt. Gretna, then headed over to a boy scout camp for the ceremony and reception. I mean, a boy scout camp? What’s not to love about that?
A lot of hard work went into putting their big day together, and it really showed. Kristin and Garritt along with friends and family transformed the J Edward Mack Scout Reservation (“Camp Mack”) into something that truly represented them – gorgeous DIY details, activities like lawn games and a bonfire to fit their relaxed vibe, and décor collected over time that seemed straight out of a Wes Anderson film. I love when couples brand their wedding day, and this was a perfect example of that – there were “G&K” touches everywhere, most of them handmade. I especially loved the hand-painted banner above the mantle and the wooden succulent letters – I told them that when I get married, they’re hired for my event design. Oh, and did I mention that all the desserts were made by the couple? And they were easily better than any wedding desserts I’ve ever had (those cupcakes, oh my!).
Gil came along with me to the wedding to learn the ropes and get experience shooting (our goal is to eventually be a permanent team), and he totally blew me out of the water with what he shot – several of these images are his. He and I had so much fun being a part of Garritt and Kristin’s wedding day, and getting to know this awesome couple. The whole day from beginning to end was totally laid back, and I know it’s one that I’ll be reminiscing about for a long, long time.
