Italy Elopement Photographer - Abruzzo Portraits with Heather & Matt
March 23, 2023 , Couples
Hi, friends! It’s been a while, and I can’t believe I haven’t officially shared these photos yet! I lived out my dreams of being an Italy elopement photographer (or wedding photographer, but aren’t these great elopement inspiration?). This particular weekend kicked off a string of destination weddings in Europe for me. I am so grateful for the opportunity and for these two amazing humans, Heather & Matt.
I met Heather & Matt through their close friends, and two of my other favorite clients, Katie & George. At that wedding, Heather came up and grabbed me at the end of the night and said something like “when I get married, you’re photographing my wedding!” Fast forward just weeks later, and she was emailing me to talk about me being the destination wedding photographer for her & Matt’s party abroad. By the time I was flying out to Italy for them, Heather & Matt already felt like old friends.
One big perk of a destination wedding is time. Time to enjoy, celebrate, and time to explore the local landscape. The day before their wedding, we ventured up the windy roads to Rocca Calascio, the ruins of an old castle high up in Abruzzo’s Apennines Mountains. Matt and Heather had considered having the ceremony here, but chose a different spot after some logistical concerns. Obviously, we wanted to include it regardless and capture the setting for some portraits. The fortress dates back to the 10th century, and was an absolutely gorgeous setting. We explored the castle grounds and vistas, and the views of the valley so far below us took my breath away!
I’ll share their actual wedding celebrations later, because those are some of my favorite photographs I’ve ever made. However, for now, enjoy this Italy portrait session!
Part 2 of this amazing Italian wedding coming soon!
