A MEDIEVAL ITALIAN ABRUZZO DESTINATION WEDDING

Heather & Matt – Sextantio, Santo Stefano di Sessanio

For Heather & Matt’s nuptials, they chose to have an Abruzzo destination wedding to honor Matt’s Italian roots. They picked a medieval “scattered hotel” (“albergo difuso” in Italian) near Rome called Sextantio, in the tiny stone village of Santo Stefano di Sessanio. The village has been restored to preserve its historic charm, and the wedding unfolded in spaces all throughout the town. There’s even a 10th century castle, Rocca Calascio, down the road where we took portraits before the rehearsal dinner.

For the ceremony itself, we trekked up into the nearby mountains of the Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park. We lucked out with a dramatic backdrop from a storm in the distance. Truly, the perfect setting for Heather & Matt’s emotional vows. Immediately after, the sun came out to celebrate, and we made our way back to Sextantio for an Italian pasta feast. Eventually, the night carried on until 4am with a disco party. It was such a blast, and I couldn’t love destination weddings more! Vendor list below.
